Aus: René Primevère Lesson, Histoire naturelle des oiseaux-mouches (Paris: Arthus Bertrand 1829-1830). – Rechts unten signiert: ″Coutant sculp.″ Unterhalb der Darstellung betitelt. – Partiell unscheinbar fleckig. Sonst guter Zustand.

Jean-Louis-Denis Coutant (1776 Argenteuil - nach 1831 Paris). Französischer Kupferstecher in Paris. Schüler von Christoph von Mechel in Basel. Stach Tafeln zu naturwissenschaftlichen Werken wie zur Cordilleren-Reise von Alexander von Humboldt oder die "Histoire naturelle des oiseaux-mouches" von Lesson (1829/30).

Jean-Gabriel Prêtre (1768 Genf - 1849 Paris). Schweizer naturwissenschaftlicher Maler. In Paris Schüler bei Gerard van Spaendonck. Zunächst als Maler an der Menagerie von Kaiserin Joséphine de Beauharnais am Schloss Malmaison tätig. Später als Naturmaler und -zeichner am Muséum national d’histoire naturelle. Schuf unzählige zoologische Darstellungen, viele im Auftrag der Herzogin von Berry.
