Aus: Pierre-Joseph Redouté, Les Roses (Paris: P. Dufart 1828-35). – In der Platte links unten monogrammiert: "P.J.R." Unterhalb der Darstellung betitelt: "ROSA INDICA SERTULATA. BENGALE A BOUQUETS." – Tadellos erhalten. Schönes Kolorit. Sehr guter Zustand.

Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759 St. Hubert/Belgien - 1840 Paris). Namhafter französischer Blumenmaler und Aquarellist. Kam 1782 nach Paris, um als Dekorateur und Bühnenmaler zu arbeiten. Im Jardin du Roi ging er seinen botanischen Studien nach, welche bald die Aufmerksamkeit von Gerard van Spaendonck und Charles Louis L’Héritier de Brutelle weckten. Zu seinen Förderern zählten u.a. Königin Marie Antoinette und Kaiserin Joséphine. Redouté wurde wegen seiner außergewöhnlichen Begabung für botanische Darstellungen als der "Rafael der Blumen" apostrophiert. Die mehrbändigen Rosen- und Lilienbücher 'Les roses' und 'Les liliacées' gelten als sein Hauptwerk.
